The signature of Alexander Pulec’s creative work often depicts vivid otherworldly realms while feeling intrinsically personal and revealing an uncanny view of normalcy. Inspired by psychology, medicine and magic, PULEC’s art often evokes absurdism, mysticism, hyper surrealism, macabre beauty and an optimistic nihilism all with a sharp tongue firmly planted in cheek. Themes of human behaviour, decaying nostalgia, technology, alienation, pop culture and ego make up the central themes in his work.
Pulec’S musical compositions, songs and visual work articulate the curious and fragile sides of humanity without being heavy-handed and free of the usual dose of all knowing pretension. Instead opting to inspire hope with a cheeky grin in the sight of unsettling horror.
He double-majored in Psychology & Music at York University. Since then Pulec has been invited by Objet Sonore to give lectures at Concordia University about the emotional response and importance of key signatures in music and has spoken at several other venues about various topics relating to music and software. He was also invited to be a panel judge for the IndieWeek music festivals in Toronto (2013-2015). Since 2015 he’s collaborated with licensing houses (Vapor Music, Pirate Radio and TV, Eggplant)
in 2015 one of his projects “The Nursery” garnered worldwide acclaim by having it’s music licensed to award winning shows like Schitt’s Creek and Kim Convenience, alongside winning various awards (Best Music Video: Digital Ashes and Best Alt/Rock) at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. They were also the winner of Indie88/Jim Beam’s “Make History” awards (2018).
Currently, Alex now operates his own production studio, Audio Ritual, and is living and working in Toronto where he continues to work primarily in music composition, video production, performance and mixed-media for creative and commercial projects.
